Pitch deck design — Film

A studio service

Film pitch deck design for stories worth financing.

Film pitch decks are competing for attention from people who have been pitched a thousand stories. Visual storytelling is the product — the deck has to prove you can tell stories before they watch the trailer. We design film decks that earn the creative conversation and the investment conversation at once.

N° 01What film decks get wrong

Four design failures that close the financing door.

01

All lookbook, no business case

Beautiful mood imagery with no comparables, no budget summary, no distribution strategy. This is a creative brief, not an investment document. Film investors need to see a return model, not just a visual treatment.

02

Comparables that flatter, not inform

Choosing the one outlier in your genre — the $800K film that grossed $47M — is a tell, not a case. Investors know the distribution. Choose honest comps in the same budget tier and let the upside case be the outlier column.

03

Director bio that reads as CV

A list of credits without a statement about why this film, why now. The director's connection to the material — specific, honest, brief — is more useful than a filmography.

04

No recoupment waterfall

Film investors need to see the order in which they get paid back and their share at each stage. A simple waterfall slide — debt, preferred return, equity split — answers the question investors are asking before they finish reading the deck.

N° 02Who this is for

Every format. Every stage.

01

Independent feature filmmakers

Raising private equity for first or second features. The deck needs to work for both production companies and individual HNW investors who invest in film for cultural and financial reasons.

02

Documentary directors

Access-driven pitches where the subject's participation is the moat. Distribution path through festivals and broadcast/streaming is the investment thesis.

03

Production companies and studios

Slate pitches, co-production pitches, and streaming deals. Multiple films, one investment thesis. We design for the institutional format as well as the individual project.

Questions

The answers we give most often.

What's the difference between a lookbook and a pitch deck?
A lookbook is visual-first: mood, tone, reference imagery. A pitch deck is business-first: story, budget, team, distribution, comparables, return model. We design both, or integrate lookbook elements into the deck.
How do I present the budget in a pitch deck?
A one-slide budget summary broken into four to six top-line categories. Percentage allocation for each. Not a line-item budget — that goes in the data room.
What comparables should I include?
Two to three films in the same genre and budget range with known box office or acquisition prices. Include production budget vs gross for each. Be honest about the range — cherry-picking outliers damages credibility.
How do I present a documentary pitch differently from a narrative feature?
Documentaries lead with access — who said yes to being filmed, what archival material you have. Narrative features lead with creative vision and genre comparables.
Should a film pitch deck include a distribution strategy slide?
Yes, always. Target festival, primary distribution path, any letters of intent, and a recoupment waterfall showing when investors get paid back.
How do I present the director's vision without it reading as promotional?
Use the director's statement as a one-paragraph insert with a credit line, paired with a visual reference. Make it specific — a named influence is more useful than a general aspiration.
