1. Who we are

DesignKompanie is a design studio based in Basel, Switzerland, providing illustration, book design, publishing support and related creative services. Contact: hello@designkompanie.com.

2. Quotes and commissions

Most information on this website is an invitation to enquire, not a binding offer, and commissions are agreed individually by email or written proposal — scope, price, timeline and deliverables. The exception is our order page: booking a book package there and paying the deposit forms a contract on the terms shown at checkout.

3. Payment

Book packages booked through our order page are paid in three parts: a 30% deposit that reserves your slot and starts the work, 30% when you approve the rough spreads, and 40% on final delivery. Other projects are invoiced with a deposit before work begins and the balance on delivery unless agreed otherwise. Delivered files remain our property until payment is complete.

4. Usage rights

On full payment you receive the usage rights agreed in the proposal — for book commissions this is normally the worldwide right to print, publish and sell the work in the commissioned title. We retain the right to show the work in our portfolio unless agreed otherwise in writing.

5. Deposits, cancellation and refunds

If we decide your project is not one we can take on, we refund the deposit in full. If you cancel before we have begun drawing, we refund the deposit in full. After work has started, the deposit covers the time already spent and is not refundable, but you keep everything produced up to that point.

The deposit reserves a slot in our schedule. If we cannot start within the timeframe agreed with you, you may cancel and be refunded in full.

6. Your materials

You confirm that manuscripts, photos and other materials you send us are yours to use, and that commissioned work based on them does not infringe third-party rights.

7. Liability

We deliver our work with professional care. To the extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the fee paid for the commission concerned; we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, or for the commercial performance of published titles.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by Swiss law. Place of jurisdiction is Basel, Switzerland. Last updated: August 2026.
