Monograms come in three structural traditions. Each tunes differently to specific letter pairs — some letter combinations want interlock, others stack better, others belong inside a frame.

Classic interlock
Two letters share strokes — the classical YSL / Chanel construction. Works for pairs that share geometry.

Stacked
Letters layered vertically or diagonally without sharing strokes. Cleaner for pairs that don't naturally interlock.

Framed
Letters held inside a contained shape — circle, oval, shield, badge. Adds heritage register.

- My initials don't seem to fit together — can you still make it work?
- Yes. Some letter pairs need interlock; others need stacking. Part of our work is choosing the right structure for your specific letters.
- Can you include a third initial for middle names?
- Yes — three-letter monograms are a separate tradition with their own typographic rules.
- Will it foil-emboss?
- Designed with foil-stamp line weights from the start — Identity and System tiers include the foil spec.
- Can the monogram stand alone, or does it need a wordmark?
- Both. Monogram alone for compact applications (signet, stamp, favicon), monogram + wordmark for full lockups.
