The team slide why you, specifically..

Investors are not checking that you have a team. They are asking why this particular team wins this particular market. Most team slides answer the first question and ignore the second.

N° 01What goes wrong

Four defaults that make the slide decorative.

01

Headshots and job titles

A grid of faces with CEO, CTO and Head of Growth underneath. This proves the roles are filled. It does not argue you are the right people, which is the only thing the slide is for.

02

Logo soup

Ex-Google, ex-McKinsey, ex-Stripe. Relevant only if the experience maps to this problem. A decade at a large company means little if the work was in an unrelated division.

03

Advisors given equal weight

Four advisors at the same size as the founders suggests the founding team is thin. Advisors belong in a smaller row, or in the appendix.

04

Hiding the gap

No technical co-founder on a deep-tech deck is not a secret you can keep. Naming it with a hiring plan is a stronger position than hoping nobody counts.

N° 02What works

One line each that connects person to problem.

01

Say what each person did that is relevant here

Not the title, the thing. ‘Built and sold the pricing engine two of our target customers still run’ beats ‘VP Product, ex-Oracle’ every time.

02

Show how long you have worked together

Co-founder churn is a leading cause of early-stage failure and investors price it. Years working together is a real de-risking signal that costs you one line.

03

Name the gap and the plan

‘First hire is a senior backend engineer; two candidates in final stage.’ This converts an obvious weakness into evidence that you see clearly.

Questions

The answers we give most often.

What should the team slide include?
For each founder, one line on what they did that is directly relevant to this problem — not a career summary.
Where does the team slide go?
Late in a seed deck, where the idea must earn attention first. Early for a repeat founder, where the team is the strongest asset you have.
Should I include advisors?
Only if they are genuinely active, and always smaller than the founders. Equal billing suggests a thin founding team.
What if we are missing a key role?
Name it with a hiring plan. Investors find the gap regardless; being first to it reads as self-awareness.
Do headshots help?
Mildly. They humanise the slide but prove nothing, and must never crowd out the line that argues founder-market fit.
How do I show founder-market fit?
Connect a specific prior experience to a specific insight in this business. The sentence should be impossible to paste into another company's deck.

Next step

Want the whole deck to hold together?

One strong slide rarely rescues a deck. We design the argument end to end.
