A studio service
Crust, and the warmth in it.
Painted food fails when it goes grey, and baking is almost entirely one colour family — so it is the best possible exercise in making a narrow range of browns look warm, varied and edible. Loaves, pastries, a cut cake, and the cloth underneath it.

N° 01Warm neutrals
Every brown is a different brown.
Mixed from warm and cool pairs rather than taken from a pan, which is the only way crust ever looks baked.
01
Loaves & crust
Scored bread and a dark bake — the value range that makes everything else look easy afterwards.
02
Cakes & pastries
Cut cake, layers and glaze. Soft interiors against crisp edges, in one subject.
03
The laid table
Cloth, board, a dusting of flour. Where the white of the paper comes back into play.
N° 02How a workbook works
Not a coloring book. A lesson you paint.
Every baking exercise arrives in three parts, so you are never staring at a blank page wondering where to start.
01
The finished painting
You see where you are going before you start — the completed piece, printed at full size, so you can match value and edge as you work.
02
The washes, in order
The same painting broken into its stages: first wash, second wash, detail. You paint one layer, let it dry, and turn the page.
03
A base to paint on
A light printed guide on the facing page. Paint straight onto it, or use it as a drawing reference on your own paper.
N° 03Made to be painted on
Laid out for wet media.
Every page is single-sided, so water never buckles the exercise on the back. Margins are wide enough to tape down, the printed guide lines are pale enough to vanish under a wash, and the whole file is 300 DPI so a home printer gives you a usable surface. Print on any 200gsm+ cold-press and it behaves like a proper block.

N° 05Questions
The answers we give most often.
- Why does painted food look grey?
- Because the browns were mixed from a single pan colour, or over-blended on the palette. Warm and cool pairs mixed lightly, and allowed to stay slightly separate, is what keeps crust looking baked rather than muddy.
- Is this useful for a recipe book or food blog?
- Yes — that is a common use, and the Complete pack includes a commercial licence covering exactly that. The exercises are composed as standalone illustrations.
- What subjects are included?
- Loaves, rolls, croissants and pastries, cut cakes and layers, plus laid-table scenes with cloth, board and flour.
- What do the packs cost?
- $9.99 for the 10-exercise Starter, $19.99 for the 30-exercise Workbook, and $39.99 for the Complete set with 60+ exercises and a commercial licence for KDP and Etsy.
