A studio service
Children's books for 4 year olds.
Four notices when something is unfair. Stories can be longer now, and funnier, and can carry a question the child is actually working on — whose turn it is, who is allowed in, what happens when you get it wrong.
Fairness becomes the subject.

N° 01What works at this age
What a book for a 4 year old needs.
01
A question worth asking
Sharing, telling the truth, being left out. Fours will sit through a longer book if it is about something they are living.
02
Humour that is theirs
Repetition-with-a-twist, absurd exaggeration, the adult being wrong. Four-year-old humour is specific and it earns attention.
03
Longer, but still one sitting
The text can double from age three without losing them, as long as each spread still turns on something.
04
A character who changes
By four a child can notice that someone ended the book different from how they started. That is the beginning of real reading.
N° 02Questions
The answers we give most often.
- How long can a book for a 4 year old be?
- Comfortably 500 to 800 words across 14 or so spreads. The limit is whether every spread still moves — not the word count itself.
- What themes work for 4 year olds?
- Friendship, fairness, honesty, courage in small doses, and starting somewhere new. Anything they are negotiating in real life that week.
- Do 4 year olds still need pictures on every page?
- Yes. They are reading the pictures for the parts the words leave out, and will keep doing so for years.
