The use of funds slide where the money goes, and what it buys.

An investor wants to know two things about the money: what it will be spent on, and what the company will have to show for it. The use of funds slide answers both. It breaks the raise into a few categories that add up exactly to the ask, and ties them to the milestone that makes the next round, or the exit, possible.

These are starting points for the scope listed, not a maximum. Larger or more specialised work — a full appendix set, regulated or clinical material, or a partnering package built to a conference deadline — is scoped and quoted per project.

N° 01What to show

Three elements, one slide.

01

Categories that add up

Three to five lines, such as product, sales and marketing, team, operations. In a property raise: land, construction, fees, contingency, financing. The total equals the ask.

02

Amounts and shares

A dollar figure and a percentage for each. A simple bar or table reads faster than a pie chart with six slices.

03

The milestone

What the spending achieves and how long the money lasts. This is the line the investor remembers.

N° 02What goes wrong

Three faults investors notice.

01

Totals that do not match

If the categories sum to a different figure from the ask slide, the reader notices immediately. Check the arithmetic.

02

"General corporate purposes"

A large unexplained category suggests the plan is not finished. Name what the money does.

03

No contingency in a build

For construction and development, leaving out contingency reads as inexperience. Show it as its own line.

Questions

The answers we give most often.

What is a use of funds slide?
The slide that breaks the amount being raised into spending categories and shows what milestone the money gets the company or project to.
How detailed should it be?
Three to five categories. A line-by-line budget belongs in the financial model, not the deck.
Is it different from sources and uses?
Sources and uses is the fuller form used in real estate and acquisitions: it shows where the money comes from as well as where it goes, and the two sides balance.
Should I use a pie chart?
A horizontal bar or a short table is easier to read and to compare. Pie charts work only with three or four clearly different slices.
Can it be combined with the ask slide?
Yes, when the breakdown is three or four lines. Give it its own slide if there is more to explain.
What about founder salaries?
Include them within the team category. Hiding them invites the question.

Next step

Want the whole deck to hold together?

One strong slide rarely rescues a deck. We design the argument end to end.
