A studio service

A hundred different greens.

A garden is the hardest easy subject there is, and it always fails the same way: every leaf painted with the same green straight from the pan. This workbook is really a colour-mixing course disguised as a garden — warm greens, cool greens, greens with a little red in them, and where each one belongs in a border.

Watercolor study of a planted border in many mixed greens with a terracotta pot

N° 01Mixing first

Green is a mixed colour.

Nothing in the garden set uses green from the pan. Every exercise starts at the palette, not the paper.

01

Borders & beds

Mixed planting where depth comes from temperature — warm greens forward, cool greens back.

02

Pots & greenhouses

Terracotta and glass. Two surfaces that teach reflected colour better than any other subject.

03

Garden wildlife

Bees, butterflies and a robin on a fork handle — small, quick exercises between the larger scenes.

N° 02How a workbook works

Not a coloring book. A lesson you paint.

Every garden exercise arrives in three parts, so you are never staring at a blank page wondering where to start.

01

The finished painting

You see where you are going before you start — the completed piece, printed at full size, so you can match value and edge as you work.

02

The washes, in order

The same painting broken into its stages: first wash, second wash, detail. You paint one layer, let it dry, and turn the page.

03

A base to paint on

A light printed guide on the facing page. Paint straight onto it, or use it as a drawing reference on your own paper.

N° 03Made to be painted on

Laid out for wet media.

Every page is single-sided, so water never buckles the exercise on the back. Margins are wide enough to tape down, the printed guide lines are pale enough to vanish under a wash, and the whole file is 300 DPI so a home printer gives you a usable surface. Print on any 200gsm+ cold-press and it behaves like a proper block.

N° 05Questions

The answers we give most often.

Why does my foliage always look flat?
Because it is one green. Depth in a planted border comes from temperature, not tone — warm greens advance, cool greens recede. Every exercise here starts with a mixing chart before any paint touches paper.
Is there a colour-mixing chart included?
Yes, in the Workbook and Complete packs. Each exercise names the mixes used, so you can rebuild the palette with whatever pans you own.
Does it cover greenhouses and glass?
Yes — glass and terracotta are their own exercises, because reflected colour is easier to learn on a pot than on a leaf.
What do the packs cost?
$9.99 for the 10-exercise Starter, $19.99 for the 30-exercise Workbook, and $39.99 for the Complete set with 60+ exercises and a commercial licence for KDP and Etsy.
